How My Garage Inspired a Product

Cars have been a passion of mine since childhood, and as I got older, I dove much deeper into the hobby. While working on some of the cars I own, I often found myself wishing for a tool where I could keep everything organized in one place. Somewhere to log maintenance, track parts I wanted to buy, upload photos of cars I saw at shows, and save inspiration for future builds. Motorshed was born from that need.

Motorshed began as a capstone project for my Master’s in Information Design and Strategy at Northwestern, but it quickly evolved into a personal passion project. What started as a simple browser tool concept became a more fully realized product. Motorshed is a tool built for car enthusiasts. It allows users to save vehicle listings, parts, articles, videos, and forum posts from across the web via a browser extension, while also helping them track maintenance, document their build with photos, manage owned parts, and jot down notes. With the help of tools like Cursor and Windsurf, I built a working prototype to explore interactions and shape the product vision.

I continue to work on it in my spare time. Currently, I am refining both the feature set and the visual direction. Below is a glimpse of where Motorshed is today, followed by a look at how it got there, through early ideas, prototypes, and design iterations. If you're curious to learn more, feel free to reach out. I'm always excited to talk about cars and technology!
